Goodyear Community Information
Goodyear, a suburban community southwest of metro Phoenix, was founded by Goodyear Tire/Rubber Co. for the farming of cotton. Later, a naval air station was established in the city, a subsidiary-Goodyear Aircraft, began manufacturing flight decks for Navy seaplanes. Goodyear Aircraft is now Lockheed Martin, one of the city's largest employers. Aerospace & food processing industries, along with proximity to California markets, have given the city a strong economic base & contributed to its rapid growth. The city is committed to high-quality development which incorporates aesthetic appeal, cultural & recreational amenities & open space. In 2008, Goodyear received the All-American City award.
Scenic Attractions:
The West Valley Fine Arts Council offers varied cultural events. Each fall, Estrella Mountain Ranch hosts the Cool Desert Jazz Festival. Estrella Mountain Regional Park offers golf, camping, horseback riding, hiking, and picnicking. White Tanks Regional Park, named for natural rock water tanks once used by local Indians, features Indian petroglyphs. Phoenix International Raceway is to the east. Seven spectacular golf courses by master golf course designers challenge the best of players. Goodyear is home to the Cleveland Indians for spring training beginning in Spring 2009 and the Cincinnati Reds are on deck for 2010.
Community Facilities & Economy:
Goodyear has a range of facilities including a community building, one swimming pool, three golf courses, and six parks.
Much of Goodyear's economy centers around the aerospace industry. Lufthansa's Airline Training Center, Aviation Management Systems and Lockheed Martin Defense are located on the Phoenix-Goodyear Airport campus. Del Monte Fresh Produce, Poore Brothers, Snyder's of Hanover and Duncan Family Farms represent the food industry. Other companies include Rubbermaid, Simpson-Norton, and Walle Corporation.
